Meet our Five Star Staff
Dr. Christopher A. Melgey
Dr. Melgey was raised on a farm where his love for animals began at a young age. He got a BS at The University of Connecticut and a DVM from Oklahoma State University and currently has over 28 years of experience. Dr. Melgey worked in Connecticut where he owned his own successful practice for many years before moving to south Florida with his family. He purchased Crystal Lake Animal Hospital from Dr. Peter Fleming in August 2012, who established the hospital 38 years before. Dr. Melgey’s main concern is the well being of his patients. His expertise in patient care, surgical skills and intuition are his greatest attributes. He strives to communicate with his clients regarding their pet’s condition so they can make informed decisions about their pet’s medical care. Dr. Melgey always has a soft spot for rescue animals and enjoys helping them get healthy and find their forever home. He has 3 beautiful daughters and 4 grandchildren. At home he is surrounded by dogs, cats and horses. |
Obi Wan
Obi is our beloved house cat. He is adored by all and spoiled beyond belief. You may see him roaming the halls once in a while. But for the most part he hangs out in Dr. Melgey's office on his favorite couch. Aly - Hospital Administrator
Hi, I'm Aly! I've had a passion for animals my entire life. I started my career professionally caring for exotics at 16 years old. I've studied animal behavior for over a decade and have successfully trained a variety of service dogs, behaviorally rehabilitated numerous rescue dogs, and competed in dog sports. I started my endeavor into veterinary medicine in 2019 Crystal Lake Animal Hospital. I am currently the hospital's administrator, my goals are to continue my education, research updated veterinary studies, and create a hospital environment that brings ease to both pets and parents when they visit - knowing they have their furry friends in the best hands. Amanda - Client Service Representative
Hi, my name is Amanda. Since I was a little girl, I have always been an animal lover and promised myself I would become a veterinarian one day. As I grew older my career path had changed, when the opportunity to work at Crystal Lake Animal Hospital came along, I knew I had to seize it. In the time I have been working here my passion for caring for animals has only grown stronger. My passion is to further my career and enter the Penn Foster program to become a certified Veterinarian Technician. Davey - Veterinary Technician
My name is Davey and I love working with animals! I’m from Queens, New York and my journey into veterinary medicine started in high school where I graduated from the agriculture program at John Bowne High School. My goal is to gather more knowledge in veterinary medicine and grow in the field. Working at Crystal Lake has given me many opportunities. I enjoy working at a clinic with such encouraging staff and expanding my career with them. Sarah - Animal Care Attendant

In 2017 I became interested in veterinary dentistry. I moved to Florida to live with my husband in 2019. I am glad to be a part of the Crystal Lake Animal Hospital team and continue to help animals as a Surgical Veterinarian Technician. Ember - Veterinary Technician
Hi, my name is Ember. I am originally from Chicago and have always had a passion for helping animals ever since I was a little girl. I recently just moved to Broward County from Texas where I was a Veterinary Technician at a large animal clinic. It was my first job officially working in the industry, but my experience started with my family's farm before I could even walk. I am currently pursuing farthing my education in veterinary medicine and eventually would love to become a veterinarian someday. I am absolutely in love with the family dynamic and the amazing hands-on learning experience Crystal Lake Animal Hospital has to offer. They have welcomed me with such open arms, and I could not have been happier with my decision to further my career at a wonderful facility! |
